Eurasia Regional Section of the World organization "United Cities and Local Governments"
The 11th Metropolis World Congress of Metropolitan Section of UCLG was held on 6-10 October in Hyderabad (India). 130 cities in 50 countries were represented by around 2000 delegates at the summit of mayors of world cities. Secretary General of UCLG-Eurasia Rasikh Sagitov represented megacities of Eurasian region.
Mr. Rasikh Sagitov delivered a speech at meeting of Regional Secretaries of UCLG and meeting of Women International Network with a proposal to maintain stability in the international organization due to recent events in the Ukraine.
The XI Congress of Metropolis was an excellent opportunity for discussion and a great networking opportunity as it brought together leaders of the member cities and many leaders of local and national governments, planners, academics, heads of foundations and international NGOs, as well as other important municipal players from more than a hundred cities around the world.
The sessions organized under the theme “Cities for All” relied in particular on topics such as smart cities, metropolitan governance, sports and culture, business in cities, sustainability, Habitat III – beyond 2015, housing for all, youth empowerment, water management, financing cities, urban India.
On specific issues such as gender sensitivity, green buildings, some cities like Barcelona (Spain), Mexico (Mexico), Seoul (South Korea) and Sao Paulo (Brazil) demonstrated their initiatives. Mayors of several member cities like Johannesburg (SAR), Barcelona (Spain), Berlin (Germany), Tehran (Iran) among others, technocrats, administrators and experts were be part of the discussions.
