The United Cities Forum in Kazan

The United Cities Forum, organized by UCLG-Eurasia in cooperation with the Municipality of Kazan, started on September 7 in Kazan as part of the international forum “ROSTKI: Russia and China – Mutually Beneficial Cooperation”.

Representatives of municipalities from more than 50 cities of 14 countries, including China, Cameroon, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Türkiye, South Africa and others attended the event. The purpose of the Forum was to strengthen and develop ties between the states united by a long history of friendship and good-neighborliness.

The main topics for discussion were inter-municipal cooperation, collaboration between China and Russia, development of public spaces, preservation of historical heritage and others.

Rustam Minnikhanov, Rais of the Republic of Tatarstan, emphasized that the meeting is timed to coincide with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the World Twin Cities Day. “Efficient management of cities ensuring openness, security, environmental sustainability and many other issues are of great interest for the development of inter-municipal cooperation”, the Rais of Tatarstan said.

A number of agreements were signed during the event. They include cooperation agreements between Kazan and Hefei, Kazan and Irkutsk, Kazan and Yalta; an agreement on the development of cooperation in tourism between Kazan and Krasnodar.
