Alena Gubanova, Mayor of Astrakhan, Vice-President of UCLG-Eurasia became the new official representative of the Russian Federation in the Chamber of Local Authorities of the Council of Europe as well as Yurii Sapozhnikov, Mayor of Vologda.
Valentina Kalita, Mayor of Blagoveshchensk, also became a member of the Russian delegation as a deputy representative. The corresponding order was signed by Vladimir Putin, President of Russia. It entered into force on 25 February, 2019.
As a reminder, Mayor of Kazan, President of UCLG-Eurasia Ilsur Metshin was re-elected the Deputy Chairman of the Current Affairs Committee. For the first time he was elected to this position in 2016.
The Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe includes more than 200 thousand European municipalities and regions from 47 countries. The congress is a platform for discussing common problems and sharing experiences that allows strengthen partnership and cooperation. The role of the Congress is to promote local and regional democracy, strengthen local and regional self-government.
