15- 24 июня 2008г. в г. Стамбул, Турция пройдет первая часть серии семинаров «Партнерство во имя устойчивого развития».

June 15 ? 24, 2008 ? Seminar Series I ?Partnerships for Sustainable Development? will take place in Istanbul, Turkey

The seminars are organized by the initiative of the Ministry for the Environment, Land and Sea and are held in cooperation with the Regional Environmental Center, Venice International University, Istanbul Bilgi University and Agroinnova Center.

As we have already reported, the Seminars? main objective is to bring government officials and businessmen from the Black Sea countries together in order to discuss the significance of partnership for sustainable development. As stated on the organizers? website, ?the rapid increase in economic activity and the growth rate of Black Sea countries have brought many opportunities and many challenges to the region. The Black Sea is very vulnerable to pressure from land-based activity and its sustainability is dependent on the well-being and good governance of coastal and non-coastal states of its basin?Clearly, unless development is secured in a sustainable way, the goods and services provided by the environment for many economic activities would be jeopardized, impacting the social and economic welfare of the inhabitants of this strategic region?.

The program will include both theoretical (reports) and practical parts (role playing games, study visits). Also optional sightseeing tours are offered.

A delegation from UCLG Euro-Asia including a representative from the Secretariat of UCLG Euro-Asia Regional Section will take part in this event. All the delegates have been awarded a grant by the organizers covering their stay in Istanbul, participation fee and tickets to and from Istanbul.

Seminar Series II will take place in Vince, Italy on 29, September ? 7, October, 2008.
