Moscow Citizens are Involved In Solving Urban Issues by Online Service “Active citizen”

An online-platform “Active citizen” was created in the city of Moscow in May 2014. Over the past time it has turned into a large-scale city web-site of electronic referendums, where more than 2 million people are registered. With the help of the online questionnaire the citizens decide which urban space should be reconstructed, express their opinion on the new bus routes, vote for names of the metro stations and offer their own initiatives for consideration by the city leadership. With the help of the project, the city authorities know exactly what the Moscow citizens are interested in and which initiatives they are ready to support.

Alexey Shaposhnikov, Chairman of Moscow City Duma: “Today the project “Active citizen” is 4 years old. Since its creation more than 3,000 surveys have been conducted. I regularly use the application as well as more than 2 million Moscow citizens, who have interesting suggestions how to make our city better. By the way, the “Active Citizen” helps the deputies of Moscow City Duma in making legislative decisions.”

Users of the online platform can discuss the most important urban issues offline. Thus, recently Alexey Shaposhnikov met with the project participants in the Moscow parliament.
