The panel of experts on Cities’ International Activity Research met on May 28, 2019 on the premises of the Executive Committee of Kazan. The Eurasia section of UCLG has initiated this project, and this is the third time that Eurasian cities are invited to take part in this large-scale project.

The panel of experts on Cities’ International Activity Research included Vice-Mayor of Kazan Evgeniia Lodvigova, Secretary General of UCLG-Eurasia Rasikh Sagitov, Chairman of the Association of Donbass Mining Towns Alim Shirinskii, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia and leading Russian universities.

The meeting was opened by Director for Development of UCLG-Eurasia Saida Zagidullina who presented brief information on the research in general and results of the previous rankings. For instance, in 2015 the absolute leader was the city of Astana (Kazakhstan) and in 2017 – the Russian city of Khabarovsk.

Head of the Department of Public Relations and Applied Political Science of the Institute of Social and Philosophical Sciences and Mass Communications of Kazan Federal University, PhD in Economics, Professor Galina Morozova suggested that the initiators compile a report on the results of the current research and highlighted that this material would be useful not only for local governments but for federal ones as well, and would allow them to track the dynamics of international activity’s development of a particular city.

Project Coordinator of UCLG-Eurasia Tansylu Nurieva told about how the research would be further developed. According to her, an important stage of the development of the project is its geographical expansion. «In 2019 cities of UCLG-MEWA will join the research. It is further planned to engage one more section every two years, and by 2029 to make the research global, encompassing all regional sections of UCLG», - Tansylu Nurieva said.
