On May 26, 2018 Yaroslavl celebrated its 1008th anniversary. Rasikh Sagitov, Secretary General of UCLG-Eurasia took part in the celebration of this significant event.
At the solemn meeting dedicated to the City Day Rasikh Sagitov presented the Letter of Appreciation to Vladimir Sleptsov, Mayor of Yaroslavl, for the city’s invaluable contribution to the UCLG activities. The Letter of Appreciation signed by Parks Tau, President of UCLG and Emilia Saiz, Secretary General of UCLG is a confirmation of the Yaroslavl's active participation in the organization's activities. Thus, in 2009, the city became a platform for the Eurasia Local Governments Congress and supported the inclusion of the SDG 11 in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
"Yaroslavl can be called one of the pioneers of the international municipal movement. Since the Soviet times, Yaroslavl had begun to establish twin-city relations and work towards establishing external city relations. We are proud that Yaroslavl has been a member of UCLG for 14 years now!", Rasikh Sagitov said.
The festive program started the day before with the night bike ride "Yaroslavl RULIT". More than two thousand cyclists organized a huge flash mob. They all lined up in the figure "1008". The festive program consisted of concerts, competitions and a street food festival. There was a firework in the end of the day.
